- Your device model and iOS version (Settings → General → About).
- The app version shown at the bottom of the in-app Settings screen.
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead — a screen recording is ideal for audio or timing issues.
- For rhythmic tracking issues: the make and model of your MIDI drum kit and the cable/adapter you are using.
Getting started
DrumFillGenerator opens straight into the Practice tab — no account, no sign-up, no onboarding to sit through.
- Set your grid. Choose a time signature (4/4 or 3/4), one or more subdivisions (quarter, 8th, 16th, triplet), the bar count, and which of the six drum voices may appear.
- Press Generate. The app either loads a hand-transcribed fill from the 200-fill curated bank or builds a fresh one with the linear generator, depending on your constraints.
- Practice it. Play, loop, adjust the tempo, switch the metronome on, tap any step on the grid to cue there, or drag to scrub.
- Save it. Tap the star to keep a fill in the Favorites tab, where you can rename or delete it later.
Troubleshooting
Rhythmic tracking says "No MIDI device detected"
Rhythmic tracking listens over CoreMIDI, so it needs a physical electronic drum kit or MIDI pad connected to your device. There is no way to enable it without hardware.
- Connect the kit to your iPhone or iPad over USB-C (or via a Lightning-to-USB camera adapter on older hardware). A charging-only cable will not carry MIDI data — use a data cable.
- Power the kit on before you enable tracking, and check that its USB/MIDI output is enabled in the module's own settings.
- Once connected, the tracking panel shows a connected indicator and the incoming note and velocity. If a "Waiting for MIDI Input" message appears, it dismisses itself on your first hit.
- If the kit is unplugged mid-session, the app stops tracking and playback on purpose and tells you why.
The Practice Pad (microphone) input source is marked SOON and is not selectable in this version.
Tracking is greyed out or won't start on my fill
Rhythmic tracking currently supports single-bar patterns only. If your fill is 2, 3, or 4 bars long, set the bar count back to 1 and tracking becomes available again. Multi-bar tracking is planned but not in this release.
My hits are all scored as misses
Hits are scored against the mathematical grid of the pattern in a tight window — roughly ±25 ms counts as on-time, up to ±80 ms registers as early or late, and anything wider is a miss.
- Turn the metronome on so you have a reference to lock to.
- Drop the tempo. Accuracy at a slow tempo transfers upward; the reverse rarely works.
- Check that your kit sends a Note On for the pads you are hitting, and that pad sensitivity or threshold on the module is not swallowing soft strokes.
- Scoring intentionally ignores the Playback Feel humanization offsets, so a "loose" playback setting never shifts the target — the grid stays the reference.
There's no sound, or the sound cuts out
- Check the physical Silent/Ring switch and the volume level, and make sure no other app has grabbed audio output.
- If you are on Bluetooth headphones, expect added latency that is outside the app's control — use wired headphones or the device speaker when practising timing.
- Individual voices have their own gain sliders in Settings. If one drum is inaudible, check that it is not muted or turned down there, and that it is still included in the generation pool.
- If audio stops when you leave the app, enable Lock Screen Audio in Settings to keep playback running in the background.
- If audio ever fails to start, force-quit the app and reopen it — the audio session is rebuilt on launch.
Notation view, multi-bar fills, or the prefill groove are locked
Those three are the premium features. Everything else — all 200 curated fills, the generator, the grid view, all six drum voices, both time signatures, every subdivision, the metronome, favorites, and rhythmic tracking — is free and unlimited.
Tapping a locked control opens the subscription screen. If the screen reports that premium is unavailable, check your internet connection and try again; the subscription catalog is fetched at that moment.
I paid but the app still shows the free tier
- Open Settings → Restore Purchases in the app. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase.
- Confirm the subscription is active in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Purchases are tied to an anonymous device identifier, not to an account. Restoring on a new device pulls the entitlement back from Apple, so no login is required.
- Still stuck? Email us with the date of purchase and we will look into it.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancellation and refunds go through Apple, not through us.
- Cancel: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → DrumFillGenerator → Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date; you keep premium until the current period ends.
- Refund: request it at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue App Store refunds on Apple's behalf.
Can I change the app's language?
Yes. Settings has a language picker that changes the app immediately, independent of your system language. DrumFillGenerator ships in English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese (Portugal), Polish, Czech, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Generation, the full curated bank, playback, notation, and tracking all run entirely on-device with bundled audio samples. A connection is only used to refresh the curated catalog in the background and to load the subscription screen.
Where did my saved fills go?
Favorites are stored locally on the device and are not synced to iCloud in this version. Deleting the app removes them. Saved fills live in the Favorites tab — swipe a row to rename or delete it.
Requirements and limits
Privacy and data requests
The app has no accounts and collects no personal profile. Subscription state is handled by Apple and Adapty against an anonymous identifier, and pseudonymous diagnostics help us keep the audio engine stable. Audio is never recorded or stored.
- To request access to or deletion of data associated with you, email us with as much detail as you can give (approximate purchase date, device) — there is no account to look up by name.
- To be removed from the launch waitlist, email us from the address you signed up with.
